This week I was extremely fortunate to shoot back-up for my good friend and photography mentor Scott A. Nelson. He was doing an engagement session with one of his couples in Laguna Beach. Scott has a great gift of “seeing light” and shooting warm images, not to mention his very unique infrared portfolio. This first pic is shot from FAR off with 300mm of zoom – see Scott working with his couple before being attacked by a rogue wave! . . . bwahahaha!

Scott likes to say that God gave him broad shoulders so he can carry lots of cameras. He is wearing three cameras here – one on each shoulder and one around his neck in front.

Some of my shots from behind . . .

Scott Nelson: Good Job Steve if I was getting married..you'd be the man!

Lourdes Jules (LJ) is a beautiful baby that I get to take pictures of regularly. Our latest time together was in Laguna Beach. LJ spent most of her time mesmerized with the qualities of sand . . .

Pontsies' sissy: OMG Hoffmann photographer! You have such a brilliant eye because those pics encapsulate such perfect little moments. They're beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your wedding photographer has an option of adding a 2nd photographer, take it! I highly recommend it. You’ll have many more pictures to choose from and usually all will have a candid feel. I took a 2nd photographer with me to Laguna Beach for this engagement session with Britney and Jeff. The following pics are from the point of view of my latest apprentice, Brian Jost.

I had the privilege of meeting and photographing Cooper Bazarsky this week! I met the Bazarsky family through the wedding and events coordinator Heather at Something New Events. For baby pictures, I go straight to my clients house and get lots of great pictures of families doing ‘life.’ When I got to the Bazarsky house Cooper was still napping . . .

I saw this cool baseball on the shelf in his room . . .

I guess when Cooper wakes up he likes to do a little thinking . . .

A kiss from mommy . . .

Back to Laguna Beach with a really cool couple for engagement pictures! Jenn and Tim have been dating for over 4 years and had no problem being comfortable with each other (and looking good) in front of the camera.

Jenn is mesmerized while Tim talks about rocket science (haha) . . .

Easy there Tim . . . not too comfortable . . .

Laguna Beach in the winter time, looking just as beautiful as in summer . . .

OK, let’s see how many different ways we can pick Jenn up and spin her around . . .
